Changes in Donata's Father

Donata is in her father’s bedchamber discussing about the need of her education. And, how she is feeling about her knowledge of Venice. Also, she is asking her father is she and Laura could listen to their brother’s tutorial. Donata and her father’s relationship at first was not close but after the long discussion the father had a better understanding of Donata and agreed to listen to their brother’s tutorial.

The relationship between Donata and her father are not close. Her father doesn’t respect her. Her father isn’t seeing her as individual. “What are you talking about daughter?”(pg. 107). He doesn't even know if he is speaking to Donata or Laura. He is not seeing Donata as individually as his sons. He thinks that girls are the same and are not worth calling them individually.

The father is still afraid for Donata because she wants the things that the normal Renaissance woman shouldn’t be asking. “I fear for you”. By talking now the father seemed to listen to her and understand move about her but, still he didn’t accept them to listen to the tutorial.

The relationship between Donata and her father got better at the end. “A mind that can hold so many numbers needs more, nourishment, or it will languish and die”. After the conversation Donata father seemed to understand the need of education for Donata. He accepted to let Donata and Laura listen to tutorial.

At first Donata’s father didn’t understand Donata that better but, after the long conversation between Donata and her father, Donata’s father understood her need of education. I hope she will have a close relationship with her father.
