Donata the Daughter of Venice

I would choose Donata because I like her inquisition of learning. She always wanted to study but, the society didn’t allow her. “I go cold with the odd sensation of being lost and alone. I know hundreds of facts about Venice. Thousands, probably. But, I know them from memorizing what others say” (pg. 19). This shows how inquisitive and dedicated in studies. She is not happy that she can’t study.

I also like how she thinks about poor people. She explains to her family members how important are the poor people. Even they are poor. Her brothers thinks the poor people are no use but, Donata thinks the poor people are the backbone of Venice and its pride. “Why should any one of us care combers’ petition for a raise. Why should any of us care if it take one soldi or two and a half? Soldi is worth so little for us”(pg214) shows how she supports poor people.

Donata also respects others like Noe her brothers, sisters and also her parents. “I straighten my nightdress and gather courage” (pg247). Shows how Donata respects her father and others. She respects everybody equally. Even though they are low cast than her. She isn't egotistical about herself.

Therefore, I want to be like Donata who is respectful, courageous and inquisitive. A girl like Donata showed that you will get successful when you try.
